Clark F5 mandolins are built based on Loar period Gibson F5 mandolins but are not slavish copies, reflecting my own opinions and style regarding the design. 

I am however, committed to using methods and materials proven over time to be both the best for sound quality and repairability.  This includes using hot hide glue for most parts, compound tapered dovetail neck joints and trussrods for adjustability. 

I am also a believer in varnish finishes.  I currently use an oil varnish finish as a base and bring it up to a warm shine with hand applied French polished shellac.  Not only does the finish have a great antique glow to it, but I firmly hold that the flexibily and thinness of the application has great benefits to the sound of the instrument.

All F5 Models come standard with a pickguard.
